I forgot to tell you guys, but guess who got Promoted this month? This Guy!

SPC waiver Promotion
So I got promoted to SPC on the first of May! I was going to post about it earlier but I was completely swamped with work and I just forgot about until now. I still cannot believe I was chosen out of everybody who I was competing against.

I did work hard for it and I do a lot of extra stuff so I can honestly say I earned it. Now that I have made SPC though, its time to look at making SGT next! I will continue to strive to bring honor to the US  and the US army while continuing to better myself to become not just a better person but a better soldier and leader.

Hope all of you are having a great day or a nice night depending where you live in the world.

Your favorite and newly promoted SPC!

Communicating Online Is Super Duper Different than In-Person

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “It’s a Text, Text, Text, Text World.”

I have social anxiety so I communicate way differently in person than I do online – except with my  family and little by little, my co-workers. The Army has really helped me with my social anxiety a lot these past two years, maybe its because the Army is such a social place that you are forced to confront it. I do hate that about the Army but nothing will change until society values introversion as much as they do extroversion, especially in the Army.

Anyways getting back on topic, I am a very different person online than in the real world. I share things with you that I would never share with a person I know in the real world. I get to share my thoughts and ideas with you and I always find somebody who can I can relate wit. I am able to create a bond with a lot of you that i cant do with an actual person because I don’t feel comfortable with them but i do with you. I can do all of these many things without being judged for it and even if I do its not the same as being  judged there in person.
Talking to a real-life human being is oh so tiring. People always want to have small talk but all it does is frustrate me because i have to try to find words to say while being careful on what I am saying. I always feel like i’m being judged, its just horrible.

I have to admit though, sometime’s i even watch what I say online with you guys and girls. I know its an un-rational fear of being judged but I just can’t help it. It does help though that I can edit my posts before  and after I click the publish button at any time I want.

Communicating emotion and Intent in a purely written medium is sometimes challenging at best but mostly its just a little bit of work. You have different types of tools at your disposal. You can you use bold or italic to highlight something important or to give emphasis, you can use smiley faces and other emoticons, and if you are feeling a little wild, you can even use animated gifs. There are so many ways to show emotion online through writing there is no reason you can’t.

Well that is all for this Week’s Daily prompt!
What did you guys and girls think? Is it easier for you to talk to someone online than in person or is it the other way around, and if so why? Comment below!

Oreo Cheesecake Cookies aka The Most Amazing Cookies Yet!

So I was in the mood for cheesecake this afternoon, so while I was looking at cheesecake recipes on the Internet, I found this little treat on cannellavita.com. Lazy Saturday Must-Haves

So how has your Saturday been so far? Mine has been okay so far. Today’s post will be short because I just wanted to post something before I go out to do medical coverage for the field next week. I’ll try to post something while im there but we’ll see how that goes, anyways to get back on topic, this is my Saturday must haves for this week.

Lazy day Saturday
The first is Netflix, who doesn’t like getting comfy with a blanket in bed and get on Netflix for a couple hours on a lazy day ?  I do it more often than I should. I’ve been watching Haven lately but I finished that last night, so now I moved back to Shakugan No Shana to finish watching as you can see in my picture above.  Shakugan No Shana is not on netflix, but it is a great anime to watch. If you’re interested you should check it out on Funimation.com/Shakugan-no-Shana. Here is an excerpt from the show’s page,

Wielding a blazing sword, Shana is a fiery huntress whose sole purpose is to fight demon-like beings that consume human lives. To reduce the impact on the human realm, Shana turns the slain into shadows of their former selves. Once a flame that represents their remaining life goes out, they fade from existence. This should be Yuji’s fate, but when he discovers he holds a special power that ignites a newfound strength in Shana, they join forces in her ongoing mission to maintain the balance between the ordinary world and the supernatural.

If you’re interested, go check it out!

The second is Tumblr. This to me is a daily necessity, I might not always post something everyday but this is where I get all of my daily inspiration. If i ever have a problem or a question, I know my followers will always have the right answer. Tumblr is not just a place to blog, its a community. If you want to check out my blog, just click the link below:

Last but not least, is my Xbox One. I might not use this item every day, but sometimes just playing video games is fun way to make the day fly by especially on a lazy day. Its also a great stress reliever. The games I usually play are Battlefield 4, Final Fantasy: Type 0, and the one I am currently hooked on and recommend is Life is Strange!

Well that’s a wrap for this Lazy Saturday’s Must-Haves. If you have your own must-have items for a lazy saturday, post them in the comments below!

Who I Am And Why I Started Blogging

So I realized I haven’t officially introduced myself other than in my About Me page. If you already checked it out, I might repeat some things.

First off, let me start by telling you my name and some background info. My name is Ricky Olguin and I was born in the amazing state of Arizona. I am 22 yrs old, soon to be 23 currently living in South Korea. I am an Army Medic in the U.S. army and I love it.

Now, to why I started blogging

I started blogging as a way to express myself. I was always a shy kid and didn’t have anyone to talk too. I thought no one would ever read my blog, that no one would take the time to read what I wrote. Once people started commenting and reblogging, I felt special. Someone was actually interested in what I had to say and they enjoyed it. It was an amazing feeling. After a while, I was getting many followers and communicating with them when I finally realized something. My whole life, I was suffering from loneliness and I didn’t know it. I was so used too that, I thought it was okay to feel like that, but no more, I finally belonged to something. I belonged to my community, my fellow writers,  my people. I kept on blogging until I had over 80,000 followers. It was quite an experience starting from 0 and going to 80,000 in a couple of years on Tumblr. I may not have that many anymore since I stopped blogging for a while, but all of you made me into a better person, all of you made an impact on my life and hopefully I made an impact on yours. I want to start all over and make a difference in the world by bringing a smile to your face. Sometimes that is all a person needs, a smile or a kind word, to make it through another day.

So stay with me through my adventures in the blogging world and lets make a difference together. Lets smile all the way to Infinity and beyond!
